Sawab is a civic-tech mobile platform developed to combat misinformation, promote fact-checking, and foster digital awareness across Arabic-speaking communities. The app allows users to post content, verify information, and collaborate with a trusted network of journalists, academics, and researchers.

How I Start This Project

 The project originated from a growing concern around the rise of fake news and media manipulation in digital spaces. The goal was to create a safe, collaborative environment where citizens could verify facts, discuss trending topics, and learn how to identify misinformation. Our team worked closely with regional experts in media literacy to design an intuitive, privacy-first social experience with built-in fact-checking tools.

Challenge on this Project

  • Designing a user interface that feels familiar like a social platform, yet structured for responsible content sharing.
  • Integrating real-time fact-checking workflows with external sources and reference tools.
  • Building scalable infrastructure capable of handling user-generated content and multi-language support.
  • Ensuring trust, data privacy, and moderation policies to prevent misuse and trolling.
